Bakery (seller) terms

Last updated 22 October 2026

These terms are for any business that lists on CakeConnect. They sit alongside the Terms of Service and the Commission and fees document.

1. Joining and listing review

Register with accurate business details, including your contact name, email, phone, city and postcode, the treats you make, and the collection point customers will use.

New listings are reviewed before they appear. We may ask for evidence that you are a genuine food business before we publish a listing, and we may decline or suspend a listing that we cannot verify.

2. Keeping your listing accurate

  • Keep menu items, "from" prices, lead times, servings, dietary options and collection details correct.
  • Set your price range honestly — it is a guide for customers, not a quote.
  • Remove anything you cannot currently make, and keep your collection locations and opening hours up to date.
  • Tell customers in your listing anything they must know before ordering, including allergens, delivery limits and how you take payment.

3. Food safety and the law

You are the food business operator. You are responsible for complying with UK food law, including registration of your food business with the relevant local authority, hygiene and safe handling practice, allergen information for the 14 named allergens (including "may contain" warnings), labelling, weights and any premises, market or trading licence.

You are also responsible for your own business insurance, tax and VAT registration where it applies. CakeConnect does not supervise, inspect or endorse your kitchen or your food safety arrangements.

4. Quoting and running orders

  • Decide which design requests you can take, and answer them promptly. Unanswered requests count against your response rate on your dashboard.
  • Send a clear quote: the price, what is included, the collection or delivery arrangement, and how long the quote stays open.
  • Keep order statuses up to date (accepted, baking, decorating, ready for collection, completed) so customers can follow their order.
  • Tell the customer straight away if something changes and an agreed order cannot be met.

5. Prices, payment and your taxes

You set your prices and your quotes. You collect payment from the customer directly, using a method you offer, and you are responsible for that money, for receipts and for your own tax and VAT.

CakeConnect does not take payment for orders, does not hold customer money and does not pay you for a cake.

6. Commission, plans and fees

Commission applies to completed orders as set out in the Commission and fees document, and optional plan fees are set out in the Subscription and billing terms. Both documents form part of your agreement with CakeConnect.

7. Customer data and confidentiality

  • Use customer details only to make and hand over the order they asked for.
  • Do not add customers to marketing lists without their consent.
  • Keep order details secure, and tell us promptly if customer data is lost or exposed.

8. Your content

You confirm you own or are licensed to use the logo, gallery photographs and menu images you upload. You give CakeConnect permission to show them in your listing and, with attribution, to feature your bakery when promoting the marketplace.

9. Suspension, disputes and leaving

We may suspend or remove a listing for unsafe food handling, misleading claims, repeated late or failed orders, harassment, or unresolved disputes with customers. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.

You can stop selling at any time. Handle any outstanding orders first, and keep your account details accurate until they are finished.

10. Liability, changes and governing law

To the extent the law allows, CakeConnect is not liable for losses arising from your trading, your food, or your dealings with customers. We may update these terms as the marketplace changes; the version published here applies. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
